How to get kicked out of Japanese Grocery Store.

Welcome back to Happy Hour Japan Season 2! In this short episode, Aaron and I will take you inside a Japanese スーパー (supermarket/grocery store).

Not only will we show you what it’s like to shop in a grocery store in Japan, but we’ll also show you a great example on how to get kicked out of one :)

Kanpai,
Kevin

Mataka ne… Well alls well that ends well XD. I love grocery shopping here in the states I really dont know why, but from the little experience I fell in love with their way! Also is that a Konbini? If not what would you call it, just Supa market? Well anyway atleast now I know not to film in a store. Jaa mata ne, Kanpai!

    Thanks for the comments everyone!

@Nereyda, I’m trying to find a school that will allow us to film an episode at, but so far no luck :(

@Gordon, this was taken at a supermarket which in Japanese is just スーパー (suupaa). Apparently you can film in a store, but you need approval in advance.

Haha!! If you filmed yourselves getting kicked out, this video would be even funnier. Can’t wait for the next one. Jaa mate ne!

I was very surprised to see you video tapping inside the Japanese supermarket, because all the large stores, super markets, electronic shops, etc. have very tight security, with security cameras (ぼうはんカメラ) everywhere; “warning decals” at entrances, stating “No Cameras or Photographing Allowed On Premises”. So, I was surprised to see you so freely walking around video tapping there. Wasn`t surprised that you were “busted” (なきをみる), however. I guess they don`t want competitors spying on their stores, but easy to take photos less obviously with cell phones, I suppose. Or you could use a “spy camera”? Film quality isn`t that great for broadcasting, for sure. Guess they’ll keep a sharp eye on you whenever you go shopping there, again eh?
Sometimes I`ve had street vendors in Japan chase me away from filming their products, because they didn`t want the competition copying their wares.
Enjoyed the brief tour at the supermarket, anyway! Thanks for trying! Sushi looked delicious!
“Security Alert! Security Alert! Strange foreigner cameraman on Isle 5 “Obento Section”! Apprehend Immediately!”

hahahahah wow you guys actually got kicked out? i don’t think that would happen in the US…but i’m not quite sure actually :P
i really like what some other people were saying about filming a school - or a university would be great too!!!! that would be fantastic!!
    anyway,
thanks for all your hard work as always!

Another reason for filming not allowed in semi-public (but private-owned) premises is the concern for privacy. It’s all fine and dandy when it’s just two cool young guys filming, but imagine if you’re just carefreely shopping away when some old creepy geezer started to film everything around you… Not so cool anymore.

I didn’t catch what Kevin said at the end about WHY they were filming from the cell phone afterwards. What did he say?
